Book of Love by Who/Chapter Eleven/With Ken Hopkins Music Minister in Finland and family history

Again while leaning over a dumpster one night in the cold and still air on the waterfront of Sausalito on my recycling routine of which sometimes lasted a night I found a broken album of The Rose bt Bett Midler and I looked at the song "Whoes Side Are you On" and the name Ken Hopkins as the writer and of course I knew that he was a good Gospel song writer and we traveled together for some six months ministering throughout Western Europe and the near East and ending up in Jerusalem and watched him write the most beautiful Gospel songs and sang them in Churches as we travelled from country to country linking up in Los Angeles after myself leaving first on the first leg of our journey and I had prayed for a date to leave and virtually had no money to speak of for the journey and with what little was raised for the journey in a special fund raiding meeting at the Knights of Columbus meeting hall that was rented with Missionary too Mexico Robert Brown speaking and raising money also so with what little was left over amounting to maybe less then a couple of hundred bucks in hand total and determined to leave by faith in the date that I felt I needed to go and Jen had no money at all for the journey and just two young and enthusiastic missionary Christian Brothers by faith I left first and on that day a letter came with a little money for the journey  and a neighbor lady unexpectedly gave me some money for journey also and the timing couldn't have been better and so before leaving I posted my IBM Selectric typewriter in a local bargain paper and took a flight too Los Angeles in the days when it only cost as little twenty dollars on the midnight special and wrote and check for an inexpense flight if I recall and made it to my parents home in West Valley, to raise more money and I spoke to a local pastor who had a minister friend in Rome Italy and he gave me twenty dollars if I recall and of course my parents donated what they could and I had told Kenneth that I would wait for him in the San Fernando Valley and meanwhile my IBM Selectric was miraculously bought by I think if I recall by a seminary student or someone and suddenly I had enough money to buy a ticket for Finland with an open Jaw from Israel and enough money 🤑 for a first class Eurail pass to make the journey there through Western Europe too the City of Brendisi in the South of Italy and mean while Kenneth took his Volkswagen Beetle to his grandparents to wash his car to sell it for a plane ticket too Europe and to join me in Los Angeles where I was waiting for him for.a couple of weeks by faith and his grandparents asked him what he was doing and he told them that he wanted to sell the car and join me on our missionary journey and they gave him the money out of his college fund and said that the experience that he was about to go on would be a good education and he flew down to meet me at my parents home and we left Los Angeles for Europe and I didn't have a dollar left over on the first leg or our journey too my grandparents farm in Finland where I had been there before with my mother ministering and had my first taste ministry there in Churches and gatherings and home meeting at the farm house in beautiful and green Finland a land with a thousand lakes and when arriving at the train station in Helsinki too travel too my Grandparents home I didn't have enough money to even buy the ticket and had to borrow five dollars from Ken for the ride and knowing that we would be well off once we got there by faith without asking or imposing myself a just believed that this is what God wanted me to do and meanwhile, while waiting for the train 🚂, Kerneth opened his twelve string guitar case and started singing gospel music in the train station and people started throwing money into his case he was so good 👍 and we or I was shocked and suprised at the response and I think I tried to tell people that we were not doing this for money or that we might get into trouble for playing in the station and stopped and never in the entire journey did he or we did any busking of which we were entirely ingnorent of doing as young and nieve we were at the time of doing street find raising and I never busked til 1984 and this was aporoximently 1973 or the year of the Munich Olympics and soon after we were on the train heading to bear the Eastern port city of Vaasa the San Francisco of Finland and settled into my grandparents place not far away in a little village or crossroads called Tianus Jurva a suburban farm and lake area of the village of Jurva and on my arrival to the farm on one of my latter journey there I saw for the first time the Auroras Borilla and it started as a bright cloud in the dime light lof a Finnish winter from the train that I was on and when I finally got to the front door of the farmhouse it had turned into a beautiful white ribbon of a curtain moving and waving in slow motion but no color just white and felt like I was standing under a curtain of light and I knew that I was home and my uncle by marriage a truck driver and farmer saw the same Aurora far away all colored with light and not knowing that I had just arrived unexpectedly and I and Ken began  ministering right away as doors started opening to us in Churches and meeting halls and after some thirty seven days with virtually a meeting scheduled every day as word got out to the next town or village in itation after invitation came to hear the young precher and his rock star looking and  music minister and I played to he harmonica at times as well as did some guitar strumming at times also if I remember correctly for he taught me how to play the guitar and after what amounted to some thirty six healing services and concerts we had enough money for the next leg of our journey and we took a large ferry boat to Sweden and rolled through the night in high waves and wind and people were seasick and sleeping on the floors if anywhere they could and that ferryboat sank years later with the loss of countless lives when the front part that opened up to take cars came loose and the super ferry went down in a storm and the only people on the boat that were not sea sick or sleeping on the carpet were Stotic looking handul of Christians sitting at a table and who had not been drinking and making excuses for me having a drink and what I had been doing in Finland to somewhat blank stares as they apparently were not drinkers and never had a drink in Finland and remembering how my parents escaped from Finland in a thirty foot lifeboat with thirty refegees in thirty foot seas of hich sank an American ship that night and the rudder broke and my father got into the water to to fix it as they were running from the Russian  Communists who wanted to kill my father for treason for crossing the Frontline on night during the Soviet Finnish Wars where Finand finnaly ran out of amunition finnaly had to make consections of taking off and arm and a leg from Finland whose map originally looked like a dancing lady in a dress and Finland was forced to give up all Soviet soldiers that defected and in my fathers case he was an officer and would have been hung and after marrying my Finnish mother and had a son with them and I s in my mother's womb we mad our escape and when the boat landed in Sweden where  was eventually born they deported a the refugees except my parents being political refugees and not migrant workers looking for a better life in Sweden and then we moved through Belgium if I recall to England where we stayed for a while where my mother had contacts her grandfather/uncle was head of all missionary activities for Finland internationally and no doubt made contact with a Finnish Seamen's Mission as before in his younger days he founded the Finnish Seamens Mission in San Francisco as a young Lutheran Missionary too Finnish Seamen in the bay area including the Anchorouts or seamen of Sausalito in the eighteen nineties and the mission became a Church and merged with a Danish Church on Church Street in the Castro District of which used to be called Finn Town for that's where the Finnish people lived with thier bathouses of which district later became a Quote Gay Community and the first place to the aids pandemic and the bathouses we're closed and the red brick Lutheran Church is still there across from the Safeway store and found his name in the Church history and I have never been there for a service and it was one of the first Churches to have "Gay" ministers call Saint Francis Church so after leaving England after some six months we can't to Ireland to County Cork and we're taken in as refugees by an Irish family we we lived on Ireland long enough for my mother to become a Catholic and had two more children and then boarded a ship to America and on our way to New York in the middle of the ocean and during a great storm I woke up for the first time and became conscious hold an orange in my hand and trying to put it in a cubby next to my bunk and it kept rolling out and didn't understand that I was on a ship at sea until my father took me topside and I saw the great and giant gray waves in the storm and as we entered New York Harbor we saw the iconic Statue if Liberty on deck if I recallike everyone else for we had made it too the promised land and then my father put my older brother in a Russian Orthodox orphanage temporarily as my mother was still in Ireland with my two younger brothers having visa problems and joined us later and in the meanwhile at the orphanage when our father came with Christmas gifts after he left the presents were taken away from us saying that we could not have more then the other children and fair enough looking back but my brother was unhappy at the orphanage and set a field on fire but I have no memory of the orphanage and then we move apparently to Hells Kitchen in Manhattan on one of the thirty or fortieth streets and the orphanage we stayed in was in Stranton Pennsylvania apparently where the Orthodox Wedding scene in the movie 🍿 The Deer Hunter was filmed in the Church connected to the orphanage and after settling into our nice and clean apartment and my mother dying her laundry on the roof and my father working as an airline mechanic for American airlines he was given a job offer in Los Angeles if he left virtually immediately and we left our beautiful and clean apartment with our model train set up in the living room with no room to take things and that was my last visual memory of New York leaving me and my brothers triain set a poient moment for me and the next thing I remembered was being in the prop jet chewing airline chewing gum to equilize the cabin pressure in our ears in those days abd it was sweet for a five hour old kid and so we settled into a house near Lagona Beach and my father worked at the Los Angeles Airport and them moved again to Reseda California in the San Fernando Valley bedroom community of Los  Angeles on Fault Street and attended Grammer school within walking distance and then moved again too Encino and attended Emilita Street School and moved again in Encino near Ventura Blvd and one more time in Encino to a house near Gable Drive where Clark Gable had a ranch at one time and Gable Drive went up a hill to a water tower and the movie It's a Wonderful Life was made in a studio there that were long forgotten and only hillside house and track houses remained of which we lived in and went to Nestle Ave School and eventually too Portola Junior High before moving to Forestville in  Northern California first by camping in the Russian River campground for it was summertime and a lived beautiful with the Redwood trees and river and then rented a house on Ross Station Road and attended Analy High School in 1964 and then we moved to Larkspur California in Marin County California into a beautiful hillside house with a Redwood garden like park for a backyard and attended Redwood High ...to be continued a thumbnail skeach of my book on one finger typing on a cellphone and no time for puncustion and in due time will be finnaly run through a word processor with the help off my friends and family and grown children for the sake of my grandchildren of which I have three of both and any help I can get in editing and correcting historical facts will be appreciated and please comment and send corrected chapters to peteromanowsky@gmail.com and thank you for any kindness and LOVE
